For most readers, the right tamper is simply the right size. Both picks are spring-loaded and sold by their brands' official AliExpress stores, in base sizes for all three common machine families. Order the IKAPE V3 for Breville's 54 mm machines: its 53.30 mm base (the seller's sizing) matches the 53.3 mm Normcore lists for them.[1] Order the ALIKISSCAFE for 58 mm machines with stock baskets, or if you want a stated 30 lb stop.
Best for Breville 54 mm machines
IKAPE V3 calibrated spring-loaded tamper
Pick it if: Bambino, Barista Express, Pro and Touch owners replacing the stock tamper
- Why it's here
- The seller sizes its 53.30 mm base for 54 mm baskets, in line with the 53.3 mm Normcore lists for Breville's 54 mm machines and inside the 53 to 53.4 mm range IMS gives for its Breville basket. Spring-loaded, and sold by IKAPE's official store.
- Watch out
- Base sizes and the spring action are the seller's claims, not measured. Its 58.5 mm base is larger than the 58.40 mm VST specifies, so it is not the pick for precision 58 mm baskets.

Best for 58 mm machines with stock baskets
ALIKISSCAFE 30 lb constant-pressure calibrated tamper
Pick it if: Gaggia Classic, Rancilio Silvia and E61 owners who want a fixed tamping force
- Why it's here
- A 58 mm flat base, the size Gaggia and Rocket use for their own tampers, with a spring the seller says stops at 30 lb. Also sold in 51 and 53 mm, by ALIKISSCAFE's official store.
- Watch out
- The 30 lb figure is the seller's claim. A 58 mm base is looser than the 58.4 mm some baskets specify, and the listing also sells a threaded base, so check you have selected the flat one.

Which variant to order for your machine
The middle column is what machine, basket and accessory makers publish. The last two columns are the sellers' sizing; bold marks the variant we would order.
| Your machine | Tamper size the makers give | IKAPE V3 | ALIKISSCAFE 30 lb |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breville 54 mm: Bambino, Bambino Plus, Barista Express, Express Impress, Pro, Touch, Touch Impress | 53.3 mm, Normcore[1]; 53 to 53.4 mm, IMS basket[2] | 53.30 mm base | 53 mm, flat |
| De'Longhi 51 mm: Dedica, La Specialista, Dedica Maestro | 51 mm, De'Longhi's own tamper[3] | 51.0 mm base | 51 mm, flat |
| 58 mm machines with stock baskets: commercial-size 58 mm (Gaggia Classic, Rancilio Silvia, E61 machines) and Breville 58 mm (Dual Boiler, Oracle) | 58 mm, Gaggia and Rocket[4][5]; 58 or 58.4 mm, IMS[6]; 58.5 mm, Normcore[1] | 58.5 mm base | 58 mm, flat |
| Any 58 mm machine with a VST basket | 58.40 mm, VST[7] | Larger than VST specifies | 58 mm, flat (looser than VST's figure) |
| Flair 58 | 58.4 mm best, 58.5 mm at most, Flair[8] | 58.5 mm base (Flair's largest size) | 58 mm, flat |
| Lelit Anna | LELIT57-specific tools, Lelit[9] | None | None |
| Flair PRO 2 | 45.5 mm, Flair[10] | None | None |
| Cafelat Robot | About 57.4 mm, Cafelat's own tamper,[11] for a 57.8 mm basket[12] | None | None |
For De'Longhi machines the two 51 mm options are equivalent on size; choose on the mechanism. The machine size finder shows the sourced sizes for single models.
How we chose
- Sold by the brand's official store. The IKAPE tamper comes from IKAPE Official Store and the ALIKISSCAFE tamper from ALIKISSCAFE Official Store.
- A base size named for each variant, with options for De'Longhi 51 mm, Breville 54 mm and 58 mm baskets.
- A spring mechanism. The evidence gives no reason to chase a particular force: Socratic Coffee found no significant TDS difference between tamps of 5 and 20 kg.[13] What a spring adds is the same tamp every time.
- A flat base available. VST, for example, gives its 58.40 mm tamper size for a flat base.[7]
- Checked on 2026-10-06 with US shipping. Base sizes, spring force and materials are the sellers' claims; we have not measured them.
IKAPE or ALIKISSCAFE?
Both are calibrated, spring-loaded tampers: you press until the spring bottoms out, so the force is the same each time. ALIKISSCAFE states its spring force as 30 lb; we have no force figure for the IKAPE. The number is a convention rather than a target. Normcore, for example, sells 15, 25 and 30 lb springs for one tamper.[14] So choose on size first, using the table above. For how spring, calibrated and impact designs differ, see calibrated vs spring vs impact tampers.
Skip these if
- You want a 58.4 mm tamper, the size VST, IMS and Profitec's PRO 400 manual point to.[7][15] Neither listing sells it.
- You own a Lelit Anna, Flair PRO 2 or Cafelat Robot. They need LELIT57 tools, 45.5 mm tools and Cafelat's own roughly 57.4 mm tamper.[9][10][11]
- Your current tamper already fills the basket and you tamp level. A spring adds repeatability, not extraction; see how hard to tamp.
Before you order
- Select the variant at checkout. The ALIKISSCAFE listing sells its 58 mm base in flat and threaded versions.
- If you have fitted an aftermarket basket, check its maker's tamper size first; the basket size guide shows how.
- Our ALIKISSCAFE tamper research notes list what that listing claims and what is unverified.
Questions
Which tamper size should I order for a Breville Barista Express?
The IKAPE 53.30 mm base or the ALIKISSCAFE 53 mm base. Normcore lists 53.3 mm tools for Breville's 54 mm machines, and IMS gives 53 to 53.4 mm for its Breville basket, so both sit in range; the IKAPE is the closer fit.[1][2]
Is a 30 lb calibrated tamper better than a 15 lb one?
No evidence says so. Socratic Coffee found no significant TDS difference between 5 and 20 kg tamps, and Normcore sells 15, 25 and 30 lb springs for the same tamper. The point of a spring is repeatability, not the number.[13][14]
Should I choose the 58 mm or the 58.5 mm base?
Go by your basket. Gaggia and Rocket supply 58 mm tampers, IMS lists 58 or 58.4 mm for its baskets and VST specifies 58.40 mm. Normcore lists 58.5 mm for many 58 mm machines, but Decent Espresso advises against 58.5 mm because a very close fit can lift the puck.[4][5][6][7][1][16]
Flat or threaded tamper base?
Flat, unless you have a reason to prefer the threaded one. VST, for example, gives its 58.40 mm tamper size for a flat base, and we found no evidence that a threaded base extracts better.[7]
